Peeved at PETA about their proposed tasteless Tiger Woods campaign*

Don’t get me wrong….

1.     I do believe celebrities like Tiger Woods who profit heavily from a “pure” image can expect to catch a lot of heat if it becomes apparent they aren’t exactly walking the talk. The long delayed public apology didn’t help.

2.     Recommending pet neutering to cut down on unwanted and thus often euthanized pets strikes me as a sensible approach

3.     Yes, understand provocative ads are often the most effective, and am myself a generally a fan of wickedly funny irreverent humor.  And I do consider sexual innuendos fair game.

4.     Adultery is not something I believe in a healthy marriage habit and I’m a believer in promoting healthy marriage (or if that’s totally impossible, a peaceful divorce)

5.     Adding yet one more Tiger Woods mention to address this doesn’t sit all that well with me

However, PETA’s  (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) proposed billboard campaign showing an image of Tiger Woods, captioned with “Too Much Sex Can Be A Bad Thing … for Little Tigers Too.  Help Keep You Cats (and Dogs) Out of Trouble.  Always Spay OR Neuter!” is inappropriate.

My concern is around the impact of the campaign on three two legged animals:  Tiger’s two sons, Sam and Charlie, and his wife, Elin.

As Tiger tries to make amends for his past transgressions, PETA’s campaign seems more tasteless and mean-spirited than funny.  It’s a rude reminder of one man’s already too public private matter. Not surprisingly, the campaign does not have Tiger’s blessing.

PETA… if you’re clever enough to come up with this campaign, you’re clever enough to come up with something just as good and less hurtful.

After all, isn’t being humane what PETA is supposed be about?

If you agree, pass the word to PETA to do better.  Use their system to report them for cruelty to animals.
